Maintenance Assistant, $180/wk plus room and board

Assist year-round employees with upkeep of buildings and grounds. Duties may include shoveling snow, painting, trash pick-up, carpentry, and other minor repairs. Lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Climb ladders and work on roofs. Use hand and power tools. Work independently. Have valid driver's license and comply with YMCA driving rules. Work indoors and outdoors in all weather. Read and speak English.

REPORTS TO: Buildings Foreman
Buildings and Grounds workers will repair minor problems on grounds in public areas and private accommodations. Workers will assist year-round staff and follow their instructions.
1.       Approval and ability to operate YMCA vehicles.
2.       Possess effective written and oral English communication skills.
3.       Lift and carry objects up to 50 lbs.
4.       Work on your feet and knees for an eight-hour shift, inside and outside, sometimes in extreme conditions.
5.       Climb ladders, scaffolding and work on roofs.
6.       Shovel snow from walks, porches, stairs and roofs (primarily October to April).
7.       Operate a variety of hand and power tools.
8.       Assist year-round employees and follow their instructions on projects.
9.       Maintain a clean and safe work area at all times.
10.   Learn to repair minor problems in facilities.
11.   Pick up trash on assigned route and dispose of properly.
12.   Uphold a positive attitude towards serving guests at all times.
13.   Must be a team player in support of organizational goals and objectives.
14.   Maintain safe work practices and a safe environment for guests and staff.
15.   Reflect YMCA core values in all functions - caring, honesty, responsibility & respect.
1.       Work Night Maintenance shift when needed.
2.       Assist wherever needed, may include basic carpentry, painting, plumbing, landscaping and cleaning.
3.       Other duties as assigned.
In addition to the grooming standards outlined in the Seasonal Staff Handbook, the following applies to Buildings and Grounds employees:
A staff vest or shirts with the YMCA of the Rockies logo will be issued to each seasonal employee from May to August and December to April. You will be required to wear this uniform while on duty. A neat and clean appearance is required at all times. Work boots or hiking boots recommended. No open toed shoes. Long work pants/jeans. No shorts.
