Job summary

This position is responsible for providing information to our guest about the flora, fauna, wildlife and history of Herring Cove and surrounding area. Trail guides ensure our guest receives a memorable and professional nature experience. Benefits include a compensative pay rate and bonus (must commit to work for the whole season to qualify).

Summary of essential job functions

  • Conducts tours in the time allotted/scheduled with adherence to quality standards
  • Meet and greet guests, explain the tour’s objectives and goals and safety procedures
  • Lead guests into rainforest trail and explain about fauna, flora, wildlife and history of Herring Cove
  • Explain the history of the estuary, ocean areas and salmon hatchery in Herring Cove
  • Help guests to interact with live animals on site and talk about the history of the Old Sawmill
  • Escort guest to Carving Shed where a native carver will explain about the totem pole carved on site
  • Help guest in finding gift items in the Store and escort guests back to their bus for return trip to ship

Minimum requirements

  • High School Degree or equivalent
  • Previous experience in guiding nature tours will be preferred
  • Knowledgeable of  fauna, flora, wildlife and history of Herring Cove and Southeast Alaska
  • Must complete the guide training program and  First Aid/CPR course
  • Speaks fluent English and  use cordial manners
  • Able to speak in front of large number of people
  • Ability to communicate and work as an effective team member
  • Maintains a professional appearance at all times and fallows the company policies
  • Ability to work long hours and irregular shifts in a multi task environment

Abilities required

  • This position may require standing and walking for long period of times
