Job Summary

Maintain daily operations of the Front Desk, Guest Services, Housekeeping, Janitorial and Laundry departments, including work plans, staff training and scheduling. Ensure the best guest service is provided to all guests from all departments within the property. As the Front Desk is the central communication for the Lodge, assisting with the coordination of all Lodge departments to ensure high level of guest service is an essential function.

Essential Job Functions

Major Activities (Typical Duties/Responsibilities):

/ Document training programs, schedules, daily procedures and work plans, safety and security standards and Customer Service involvement for the Front Desk, Guest Services, Housekeeping, Janitorial and Laundry departments

/ Attend and hold department manager meetings

/ Maximize staffing, hour, and wage levels for Front of House departments

/ Review gaps and position openings; work with managers to fill positions as needed

/ Through daily interaction with department employees and managers, ensure proper hiring and terminations meets State and Federal regulations in coordination efforts with Human Resources

/ Ensure that proper documentation is transported in all company vehicles

/ Ensure procedures and company standards are followed by all employees using company vehicles

/ Play an active role in management decisions which impact the Front Desk and guest hospitality issues

/ Provide direction and leadership to departments

/ Implement targeted, efficient procedures to ensure guest expectations are exceeded in every area of the rooms division

/ Implement change where needed for optimum service and profitability

/ Assist and develop annual budget and action plans

/ Audit employee timesheets for payroll purposes and control overtime

/ Monitor employee issues, administering company disciplinary procedures as necessary

/ Oversee and monitor Guest Service Platforms and ensure timely and appropriate response to guests

/ Responsible for developing and training staff in addition to implementing company and lodge policies and procedures

/ Performs other duties as are appropriate and as assigned

Skills + Abilities:

/ Knowledge of management principles within the hotel and restaurant business, including service standards, accounting practices, and cost control practices

/ Knowledge of the tourism business in Alaska, including state government, industry organizations, and large private industry influences

/ Ability to make decisions, solve problems and exercise good judgment; ability to work under pressure and prioritize workload

/ Strong communication skills, both written and oral, with an emphasis on the presentation of material in a meaningful manner to the ultimate decision makers

/ Working knowledge of maintenance and safety standards and requirements in the hotel industry

/ Must have superior organizational and follow-up skills and be detail oriented

/ Strong leadership, management and supervisory skills

/ Excellent interpersonal skills and professional demeanor; ability to work effectively and cooperatively with all levels of management and staff, affiliated company employees and outside business associates

/ Proficiency in the use of computers, industry-related software, data-bases and the Excel program; strong Microsoft Office suites skills

/ Demonstrated success in producing profit and customer satisfaction in the hospitality industry

/ Ability to design, communicate and effectively evaluate policies and procedures related to excellent Customer Service principles and practices; ability to train and mentor staff on delivery of the same

/ High degree of sensitivity regarding confidential information

/ Thorough knowledge of budgeting and productivity factors is essential

/ Ability to make sound judgments, anticipate issues and opportunities, display effective communication skills and a high sense of integrity and honesty

/ Ability to maximize utilization of guestroom space availability and attain average daily rate as outlined in budget forecasts

/ Thorough knowledge of budgeting and productivity factors is essential

Physical Abilities:

/ Ability to walk and/or stand on hard surfaces for extended periods of time

/ Ability to kneel, bend, and twist at the waist with regular frequency

/ Must be able to reach at, above and below shoulder height with regular frequency

/ Must be able to push, pull, carry, and lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds with regular frequency, and greater weights with occasional frequency

/ Must be able to maintain balance and maneuver in crowded space with regular frequency

/ Must possess sufficient fine and gross motor skills to operate equipment with regular frequency

Minimum Qualifications:

/ 5 years’ of progressively responsible Front Desk, hotel and/or Restaurant Management experience; or any combination of management, education and training which provides the necessary skills, knowledge and abilities

/ Experience in the Alaska Tourism industry preferred

/ Valid US Driver’s License required
