WHAT WILL I BE DOING?
/ Responsible for assisting the General Manager of the lodge with management and daily operation of all the Kenai Fjords Wilderness Lodge facilities, including efficient operation of housekeeping, accounting and cash control, food and beverage operations, gift shop operations, and proper maintenance of the buildings. Responsible for scheduling, training, coaching and disciplining the guest service agents, GSA supervisor and submitting time sheets weekly. Responsible for safe and efficient food and beverage operations; selection, hiring and training of all food and beverage department personnel and labor cost control, and producing a consistently high quality dining experience according to lodge standards. Attend staff meetings, safety briefings daily
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Major Activities (Typical Duties/Responsibilities):
/ Provide excellent guest service to guests and other team members
/ Make sound judgments and anticipate issues and opportunities
/ Handle comments, complaints and concerns with a high level of efficiency and in the best interest of the guest
/ Work closely with all other departments to ensure overall guest satisfaction
/ Ensure that guests’ special needs are met
/ Greet arriving/departing guests in a professional and pleasant manner
/ Be knowledgeable of daily functions or activities occurring at the Lodge and in area in order to answer guests’ questions
/ In conjunction with the General Manager responsible for the overall management and operation of all Fox Island facilities, including but not limited to:
/ Ensuring the safety and security of all guests and employees while on Fox Island
/ Meeting or exceeding industry and Company standards of guest service and product quality
/ Responding to customer comments, complaints and concerns to determine that guest expectations are met
/ Ensuring facilities meet or exceed legal, industry and Company standards for cleanliness and maintenance of facilities, such as:
/ daily, weekly and ongoing maintenance and cleaning in and around facilities
/ compliance with DEC regulations relating to cleaning and sanitizing guidelines for kitchen, dining room and food storage areas, such as refrigerator, freezer and cooler space
/ Developing and coordinating regularly scheduled safety meetings and drills.
/ Maintaining adequate daily and ongoing inventory of all lodging supplies, food and dry goods.
/ Coordinating and managing duties associated with start-up and shut down of Fox Island facilities.
/ Responsible for assisting in effective and efficient recruitment, training, supervision and performance of Fox Island staff:
/ Recruits, hires and terminates seasonal staff in following company policy.
/ Assists in the start and end-of-season duties in relation to all Fox Island facilities.
/ Develops and manages daily staff schedules and duty rosters.
/ Staff training to ensure customer service principles are consistently applied to achieve and exceed overall guest satisfaction.
/ Responsible for submitting accurate timesheets of all customer service agents and customer service agent supervisors; reviews and approves staff timesheets.
/ Ensures all cash is secured, deposits are made on a regular basis, and submitted to KFT accounting in a timely manner
/ Participates in monitoring the operational and labor budget
/ Responsible for maintaining routine and emergency channels of communication with the Kenai Fjord Tours office in Seward
/ Coordinates with Kenai Fjord Tours operations and vessel staff for arrival times, passenger counts, shuttle times and supply delivery
/ Ensures the food and beverage product served is of consistently high quality and is delivered to the guest in a timely manner
/ Participate in emergency response activities including firefighting, emergency medical activities (within an employee’s training limitations) and other incidents
/ Arrive to work on time, ready to work, dressed in clean uniform, with a neat and clean appearance
/ Coordinate and assist the General Manager and Chef in ordering, special island events, scheduling, staffing and safety training in order to foster exceptional teamwork and improve the guest experience
/ Other duties as assigned
Skills + Abilities:
/ Current CPR and 1st Aid Certification
/ Training for Alcohol Professionals, TAPS
/ Working knowledge of the principles and practices of the tourism business in Alaska, including state government, industry organizations, and large private industry influences
/ Working knowledge of food, beverage, and hospitality services and operations
/ Working knowledge of maintenance and safety standards in the hotel industry
/ Strong supervisory / leadership skills with ability to effectively train, manage and lead staff
/ Good judgment in making sound decisions and effectively solving problems
/ Work independently, in a team environment, and with minimal supervision
/ Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively and cooperatively with all levels of management and staff, affiliated-company employees as well as outside business associates; exhibits a professional manner in dealing with others
/ Excellent time management skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks and work effectively under pressure
/ Strong communication skills, both oral and written; ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedures manuals; ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from staff, managers and the general public
/ In-depth knowledge of Company policies, procedures and employee programs
/ Knowledge of KFT products and KFT operations, including details regarding boat tours and transportation operations
/ Proficient using industry-standard computer software and databases
/ Work extended hours, various shifts, and on holidays and weekends
/ Live in close quarters with others in a remote wilderness setting

/ ServSafe Managers Certificate
/ Some college education and three to five years’ practical experience in hotel and/or restaurant management, hospitality management, or any combination of education and experience that provides the necessary skills, knowledge and abilities
