Bargaining Unit: Non Licensed Rate of Pay: $24.70 / HR + DOE
SUMMARY: Cleans, sterilizes assembles equipment, supplies and instruments according to established policies and procedures. Performs material management functions in relation to par levels. Documents sterilization processes. Interfaces with vendors, Surgical Services, patient care units, and physician offices providing sterile processing support as requested. Provides direction, distributes and prioritizes workload amongst employees in accordance with established workflow and/or job specializations. Integrates concepts and principles of sterilization with critical thinking processes resulting in independent optimum decision making abilities. Performs quality assurance checks on sterile processing documentation logs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following:
Identifies needs of Surgical Supplies and Reusable Medical Equipment to prepare Surgical Case Carts and Multi-Specialty Clinic gear for next day patient care needs. All items placed in a cart must be examined for package integrity per Sterile Processing and AAMI guidelines.
Instructs employees on work-related activities, policies, procedures, and goals per the Manager of SPD.
Communicates the status and progress of work, and makes adjustments in accordance with established schedules, obtains assistance from the Manager of SPD on problems that may arise, such as unanticipated backlogs or emergency requests that cannot be accomplished promptly.
Provides information to management officials concerning performance issues, assignment changes and task completion.
Evaluates progress of employees and provides input to the Manager of SPD on employee's performance, progress and training needs, any potential disciplinary problems or performance recognition.
Maintaining current knowledge and answering questions on employees or policies and procedures.
Understands self protection and operates machinery safely in the decontamination room.
Understands, operates, and monitors all sterilizers’ safety.
Responsible for supply, assembly, and proper care of all instrumentation and equipment.
Handles needles, syringes and pre-packaged medications. Understands applicable safety and compliance requirements.
Maintains keys for PCA pumps. Understands applicable safety and compliance requirements.
Assists with other SPD suites.
Issues and delivers supplies and equipment for patients, departments, and physician offices.
Available to work standby.
Demonstrates System Values in performance and behavior.
Complies with System policies and procedures.
Other duties as may be assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS: Required: The International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management (IAHCSMM) or the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD). Must have valid driver’s license.
OTHER EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS: One-year Sterile Processing experience. Ability to lead a group of employees and provide direction, training, work advice and reviewing of the work in sterile processing. Yearly attendance at a designated education seminar is recommended. Individual CQI fallout statistics ratio no greater than 1:600. Ability to access, process and print pick sheets following written guidelines. Ability to operate computerized sterilization equipment following written guidelines. Ability to communicate information with internal and external customers.
