SUMMARY: Performs the nursing process through assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of safe therapeutic care to patients in hospital. In addition to staff RN responsibilities, the Nurse Unit-Based Educator (NUBE) will be responsible for attending regular Nurse Education, Planning and Development Council (NEPD) meetings, collaborating with nursing leadership to identify unit educational priorities, and delivering education at the unit-based level.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following:
Assesses physical and psychosocial needs of patients.

Facilitates unit-based orientation and education, and tracks unit-based clinical competencies of the nursing staff on the unit.
Stays current in specialty area that may include attending conferences or obtaining certification in specialty if not already certified.
Works flexible hours as the NUBE, which may include days, evenings, nights and weekends.
Other duties as may be assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Two years employment within the Hospital District and five years in specialty area or equivalent experience.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Graduation from a National League of Nursing (NLN), Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or equivalent accredited school of nursing. The nurse shall have completed a nursing education program that included clinical experiences with actual patients under the supervision of qualified faculty. Two years in labor and delivery unit with adequate number of deliveries to ensure competence in all areas of labor, delivery, post partum and newborn care. Familiar with fetal monitoring high risk labor/delivery, neonatal and post partum management. Preferred: BSN, Masters in nursing, health or education.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS: Required: California Registered Nurse Licensure. CPR certification. NRP certification. S.T.A.B.L.E. certification within 6 months of hire. Must complete Baby Friendly coursework (Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding) within 6 months of hire, Must complete either APS perinatal Safety Curriculum (10 modules) or other comparable coursework (comparable content) endorsed by ACOG or AWHONN within 3 months of hire. Comparable Coursework: GE Health Systems, AWHONN Basic, Intermediate or Advanced Fetal Monitoring, or ALSO Course.

OTHER EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS: Nurse educator experience helpful.
