SUMMARY: Responsible for the overall administration of pharmacy services. Responsible for developing, supervising and coordinating all activities of pharmacy services throughout the health system. Ensures the pharmacy provides optimal services; meets all legal, accreditation and certification requirements. Complies with all applicable policies, procedures, codes and standards of the organization.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develops and implements policies and procedures that are compliant with state and federal regulations and promote appropriate, safe and cost effective pharmaceutical care.
Facilitates the implementation and maintenance of safe medication processes throughout the organization.
Responsible for oversight of Retail Pharmacy.
Provides oversight to the Medication Safety Pharmacist who chairs the Medication Safety Committee and reports recommendations and results to the Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee (P&T) regularly.
Prepares and monitors department budget and capital equipment needs.
Monitors 340B program and is Chairperson of the 340B Committee.
Administers and provides required reports, documents and other data to P&T as required by state and federal regulations.
Ensures compliance with all applicable health system procedures; state, federal and local laws, rules and regulations.
Develops and implements strategic plan for pharmacy departments.
Participates in development of new services that require pharmacy support and services.
Participates in health system Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement process.
Develops and maintains quality standards in department; reports results to P&T per regulatory requirements.
Sustains professional competence and promotes development of staff.
Demonstrates System Values in performance and behavior.
Complies with System policies and procedures.
Other duties as may be assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Directly supervises employees in the Pharmacy. Indirectly supervises employees in the Retail Pharmacy. Carries out supervisory responsibility in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and direction work; appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Graduate of ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy with a Pharm D degree or a Registered Pharmacist with a Bachelor of Pharmacy; residency preferred. Eight to ten years health care system experience preferred. Three to five years management experience required.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS: Required: Registered Pharmacist in the State of California. Registered Pharmacist in the State of Nevada within ninety (90) days of hire.
